I started my professional career in 1992 after completing my PG degree from TISS. Since then, I have been involved in various activities such as Community Development, Training, Research, Teaching , Administration as well as other Academic activities. Some of the activities where I was involved / projects undertaken by me are given below.:-


§ Overall In-charge for implementation OF SELF HELP HOUSING PROJECT and ECONOMIC SELF RELIANCE PROJECT for Tribal Communities. Constructed 180 low cost houses for Katkari tribe in Jambhulpada, Raigad district. This project was nominated for the World Habitat Award in 1996.

§ Coordinated the Bombay Urban Transport Project – BUTP –II as Coordinator of NGO SIDDHI-ENDA. This project became the basis for the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy for the Project Affected Persons of urban cities in Maharashtra state. This project was sponsored by the World Bank.

§ Coordinated the Ist phase of Slum Sanitation Project of Bombay Municipal Corporation, funded by the World Bank while working with Siddhi enda. Our task was to get people’s participation, organising people, registration of groups under Societies Registration Act for providing basic amenities to the slum dwellers in Mumbai city.

§ Working as Honorary President of an NGO ‘Katkari Adivasi Vikas Pratisthan’. I am looking after the Training, Research & Developmental Strategy of the organization.

§ As Secretary of an NGO ‘Centre for Research, Training and Development’ (CRTD) looking after the overall co-ordination and administration of Field activities in the Raigad district as well as the research and training activities.

§ Organised Tribal youth and women and formed Youth and Mahila Mandals (Associations). Implemented various activities for their development.

§ As a team member, involved in developmental activities including planning of Watershed Development Project of Centre for Experiential Learning/Rural Communes.

§ Worked in collaboration with Government officials at Taluka, District and divisional level to implement various Govt. schemes for development of tribals.

§ Worked closely with Police Officials at Taluka level. Formed Tribal-Police Coordination Committees to create confidence among each other. Tribal youth had taken keen interest in this project as a result unnecessary harassment of tribals was minimized.


§ Visiting Faculty for the University of Mumbai. Teaching Research Methodology for M. A. in Rural Development.
§ Visiting Faculty at the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies,( Deemed University) for the Diploma Course Management of Voluntary Service Organisations ( NGO Management).

§ Teaching at the graduate and post-graduate level at the contact - lecture programme for the distance education students. Some of the papers taught are : Community Development, Research Methodology, Problems of Urban Communities in India, Sociology of Social Movements, Family and Kinship, Foundation course – History as Heritage, Women in Changing India, ,

§ In-charge of Training programme of para-professional social workers for NGOs in Maharashtra called VLWT while working with Centre for experiential Learning.

§ Conduct workshops / training programnmes for course writers and Academic Counselors of SNDT Women’s University in the area of Academic Counseling and Development of Self Instructional Material.

§ Conduct Demonstration-cum-lecture in Folk Music and Orientation for the Foundation Course - ‘History as Heritage’ at affiliated and conducted Colleges of SNDT Women's University.

§ Educational Counselor for students of distance education.

§ Designed and implemented training programmes for leadership development for tribal leaders while working on Tribal Development Project of TISS.

§ Conducted various training programmes for NGO’s and working as a Resource Persons in Staff Development of NGOs in the areas of, Leadership Development at grassroots level, How to work with communities, People’s Participation in developmental projects, Use of Media in Social Work, Youth Development etc.


While working with SIDDHI-enda and CETRD, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, I have coordinated / conducted following research projects:

v Coordinated Baseline Socio-economic Survey for BUTP-II for BMRDA funded by the World Bank in 1996-1997. Surveyed 8,000 families of Anik-Panjarapol section. This research became the basis for deciding Urban Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy of Govt. of Maharashtra.

v Coordinated Need Assessment Study of Tribal Communities in 3 Talukas of Raigad District for Additional Tribal Commissioner, Thane, for providing basic amenities to these communities in 1993-94.

v Coordinated Need Assessment Study of 20 villages in the project area of Gram Vikas Sanstha, Devrukh, Ratnagiri district for HDFC housing project in 1996-97.

v Coordinated Social Impact Assessment Study for Bombay-Pune Freeway through privatization and Kharpada Bridge Project, as a member of a multidisciplinary team in 1997.


v Conducted a small research project entitled “Distance Learner’s Views on Open University Programme – A study of University Entrance Test of CDE- SNDT Women’s University” in March, 2003.


v Administrative in-charge of CETRD / TISS Project at Jambhulpada. Lead the team of workers for implement of various developmental projects such as Low Cost Housing, Economic self Reliance Projects for two tribal settlement. Looked after the overall administration and accounts of the project.

v Administrative incharge at Siddhi-enda. Overall coordination of consultancy assignments.

v Involved in day to day administration of Centre for Distance Education , SNDT women’s University.


v As Asstt. Director in Social Sciences, I am coordinating various courses at Graduate, Post-Graduate level in the area of social sciences. Also coordinating Short Term Courses.


v Involved in the paper setting, paper correction and planning of examination at the CDE / SNDT.
v I am also the external paper setter / examiner for the paper RURAL AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT of SVT College of Home Science, (Autonomous college of SNDT).
v Also involved as an subject expert in evaluating the M.H. Sc. thesis of PGSR-Home Science, SNDT. Also working as examiner for the NMIMS, Mumbai.
v Worked as a member of Flying Squad of the SNDT Women’s University.


v As a part of Internship of Commonwealth of Learning with IGNOU, I have produced a video film on the Street Children of Delhi entitled – 'BRINGING INTO FOCUS’ in March to May 1999. This film was telecasted on Doordarshan (National Channel of Television) as a part of IGNOU telecast programme.

v Produced an Audio programme on “Violence Against Women” involving eminent scholars in this field. This programme was broadcasted on the AIR, Delhi as a part of IGNOU programme.

v Performing Artist for the Folk Music of Maharashtra. Performing with Padmashri Shahir Sable. Conduct demonstration-cum-lecture on Folk Music of Maharashtra and use of folk media for social awareness.

v Resource Person for the Training Programmes in Folk Music conducted by the Government of Maharashtra.

v Delivered number of speeches on All India Radio and participated in panel discussions on Television.


v As part of my duties as Assistant Director in Social Sciences, I have developed and edited more than 100 books (course material in Self- Instructional Material format) for the Social Sciences subjects. Also coordinating course development work for Social Science subjects.


v Worked as officer on Special Duty on behalf of the District Collector during Latur Earthquake as a member of TISS team.
v Teaching Disaster Management course for Diploma in Management of Voluntary Service Organisation at NMIMS (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies).


§ Recipient of Post Doctoral Fellowship of Asiatic Society of Mumbai for the year 2006.
§ Recipient of Internship of Commonwealth of Learning, Vancouver, Canada under its ‘Internship and Attachment Programme” Young professional of Commonwealth of Learning from March 1 to May 15, 1999 at IGNOU, New Delhi.

§ Recipient of ICSSR Fellowship for Ph. D. in Rural Development.

§ Worked with prisoners of Special Prison, Ratnagiri for two years (1988-89 and 1989-90) as apart of National Adult Education Programme of Bombay University, while doing my graduation at Ratnagiri. Won 1st prize in the project work competition (Gold Medal) organized by the Dept. of Adult & Continuing Education, Bombay University.

§ Got the Best Participant of the Refresher Course award in Distance Education, conducted by YCMOU in March 2003.

§ Won various prizes in Elocution, debate and essay competition during my college days.

A Critical Evaluation of the Role of NGOs in the Development of Indegenous Communities in India, Presented and Published in a CD ROM format at the 6th International Conference of ISTR (International Society for Third-Sectro Research) organized by the University of Ryerson, TORONOTO, Canada in July 2004.

ii. Policy document submitted to the UNDP, India for the Katkari Primitive Tribe in Maharashtra on behalf of the Academy of Development Science, 2003.

iii. EVALUATION OF THE ROLE OF NGOs IN TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA, paper selected and published electronically by Asia-pacific Association for Social Work Education at the 17th Asia-Pacific Social Work Conference “PEACE, JUSTICE & SOCIAL WORK -A VISION FOR ASIA PACIFIC IN THE 21ST CENTURY” at Japan in July 2003. iv. TOWARDS PEOPLE CENTRED DEVELOPMENT : NEED FOR PEOPLE’S PARTICIPATION FOR FORMULATION OF POLICY FOR THE PRIMITIVE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES, presented at the 13th International Symposium of IUCISD (Inter-University Consortium for International Social Development) held at Mumbai in December 2003.

xx. “LOKAKALETIL ADARSH GURU” an article in Marathi Newspaper ‘Lokasatta’ on September 1 , 2002. This article is based on the relations of the author with his guru Padmashree Shahir Sable.

xxi. “MAZE GURU PADMASHREE SHAHIR SABLE” an article in Marathi Newspaper ‘Thane Vaibhav’ entitled, on September 3, 2002.

xxii. “LOKAKALA CHALVALICHYA PAULKHUNA” an article entitled in Marathi was published at the Souvenir ‘LOKDHARA’ published by the Shahir Sable Pratisthan Yuva Shakha Konkan Region, Chiplun in October , 2003. I am heading this organization.

xxiii. Distant communities from Distance Education’ paper presented ‘at the 16th Marathi Sociological Conference organized by Barvale College, jalana, Maharashtra state on November 27-28, 2003. This paper is based on the low entry of tribal communities in distance education system.

xxiv. Wrote lesson books for the Institute of Distance Education, University of Mumbai for the subject Rural Development. August 2003.
