Profile
Kentucky resident Brian Hockensmith is an up and coming screenwriter. One of his films, Daddy’s Day Off, is a family comedy about Ben Jackson, a father who tries to enjoy a day off from work. During the course of the day he receives a call from his office, telling him to come in for an impromptu meeting. He must bring his four children to the office because his wife is out of town. The children prove to behave wildly, and inevitably laughs ensue. In the end, Ben must decide between his family and his job. The film is not only funny but also carries with it a valuable moral. Some of Mr. Hockensmith’s screenwriter influences are Adam Hertz, the man who wrote American Pie, Crash and Flags of Our Fathers screenwriter Paul Haggis, and Jim Kouf, writer of Rush Hour and National Treasure. Martin Scorsese is also one of his favorite directors. Among some of his favorite books are Lifeguard, The Good Guy, and The Killing Ground. Brian Hockensmith enjoys coaching T-ball, screenwriting, watching movies, reading books, and playing kickball and tag in his yard with his son when he’s not screenwriting or contributing time to other projects. As an athlete, he also spends time weightlifting, swimming, running, and martial arts. His favorite vacation spot is Walt Disney World and he enjoys eating lasagna. Mr. Hockensmith’s quote to live by is one once spoken by James Dean: “Dream as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow.” Mr. Hockensmith also participates in significant organizations and contributes to several important groups in addition to being a screenwriter. He has given his time and effort to such groups as the American Cancer Society, the Writers Guild of America, and the American Screenwriters Association. As a member of the Baptist Church, he has also volunteered to work in Baptist church fundraisers and has participated in Baptist church community services throughout the area.
