Profile
The Honorable Bret Raper is the current Commissioner of the Monroe Circuit Court, and has held this position since June of 2004.
Prior to serving as Monroe Circuit Court Commissioner, Bret Raper was Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office. From January 1997 to June 2004, Bret Raper worked in the juvenile prosecution department of the Prosecutor’s Office, simultaneously serving as an officer of the Victim Offender Reconciliation Program, a program developed to facilitate the resolution and restitution related to crimes committed in Monroe County. Indiana State Bar Rights for Children Award recipient Mr. Raper has always been a juvenile advocate, and was a valued member of the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office for this reason. As a leader in the Victim Offender program, Raper possesses instrumental skill in providing to Monroe County a method of instilling in young people the opportunity to develop personal accountability and responsibility. Experience has shown that victims of young offenders are often concerned with the well-being of juvenile offenders, and the Victim Offender program gives concerned adults the opportunity to demonstrate to young people that they care.
Bret is also a musician (performing as a sideman for Tom T. Hall for over three years and participating in Indiana’s Lloyd Wood Show), a volunteer (lending his time to Youth for Christ and Hospitality House), and a community leader. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University and his Juris Doctor from Indiana University School of Law.
