Profile
Praised as an experienced manager, respected communicator, and corruption fighter, Ginger Cruz has devoted her professional life to public service. From fighting for federal recognition of territorial concerns and advocating for truth as a respected television journalist, to oversight of some of the most challenging aspects of foreign policy, Cruz has been at the center of the nation’s modern political sphere.
As Deputy Inspector General for Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR), Ginger Cruz is responsible for building and leading a breakthrough organization charged with oversight of Iraq reconstruction effort. Cruz’s work has directly contributed to the successful execution of a vision set forth by the Inspector General, and for setting the standards of excellence embodied in SIGIR’s audit, inspection and investigation divisions that are charged with preventing waste, fraud and abuse in this $50 billion program. Cruz has been critical in helping build SIGIR’s reputation and credibility among federal government stakeholders, the American public, and the international community.
Prior to her post at SIGIR, Cruz was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development where she worked on national public affairs for all aspects of the $30 billion federal agency, including public housing, homelessness, Native American housing, FHA loans, and economic development initiatives.
Ginger Cruz’s insight on foreign affairs while working in Washington D.C. is rooted in her prior work experience in Guam. As the Director of Communications for the Office of the Governor and Public Information Officer for the Bureau of Planning, Cruz developed and directed international image building and high-level crisis management on such issues as the crash of KAL Flight 801 in August of 1997, several Category 2-5 Typhoons, the Chinese Immigrant Asylum Crisis, the Mustard Gas Discovery, and the VISION 2001 Strategic Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Territory of Guam. Cruz also gained widespread respect from her years of work as a top news director, anchor, and on-air talent for Guam affiliates of NBC and CNN.
Cruz’s impressive resume not only includes her political work, but her passions for art and design. At the start of her career, Cruz ran a graphic design business, providing artwork, calligraphy and graphic layout to a variety of clients. Cruz also spent time as Vice President to a federal consulting firm in Washington D.C. providing strategic planning, knowledge management and information technology expertise to a variety of federal agencies.
Cruz received her Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations at the University of Pennsylvania. Reflecting her passion for politics and serving her country, Cruz is currently pursuing her Masters in International Public Policy at the John Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies. Cruz is based in the Washington, D.C. area.
