Profile
Mike Billington has always exhibited a keen sense of communication, and his previous work in San Francisco politics utilized his adept interpersonal abilities and organizational knowledge with great success, which eventually awarded him with his current position as Senior Government and Community Affairs Manager at CitiScape Management Group, where he bridges the gap between unique industries, political groups and businesses. Billington’s current position rests in the private sector, but he still communicates regularly with the political community in his Senior Government Affairs position. At CitiScape’s San Francisco offices Billington is tasked with handling the convoluted and intense interplay between city real estate regulations, community housing demands, and the private real estate needs of CitiScape Clients. Billington is forced to place himself directly inside the storm of government and community relations, as well as the policies that revolve around them. However, CitiScape would have been hard pressed to find someone better prepared for this type of work than Billington. Billington is well aware of the zoning issues, environmental issues, and historical considerations involved in the real estate and public affairs of San Francisco elite because he served as a PR figurehead in San Francisco politics for seven years, working for both Mayor Willie Brown and Gavin Newsom.
Mike Billington graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Mr. Billington eventually joined the Office of Mayor Willie Brown in 1998 as a Public Relations Coordinator. In his early days in the office of the mayor, Billington showed promise as an expert agency facilitator while helping manage the release of department agendas and information as it was shared with both departmental groups and the public, which helped give him the experience necessary to incorporate broader strategy decisions later in his career. After three years as Public Relations Coordinator, Billington was promoted to Public Relations Manager, where he increased the scope and responsibility of his previous position coordinating the efforts of different sections of the political machine. Billington even helped the City Attorney’s Office guarantee that departmental work was compliant with San Francisco codes and the City Charter. Billington’s influence in the mayor’s office continued to grow, and he eventually shifted positions to work as Deputy Director for Gavin Newsom in 2004. At his current job in the private business sector, Mike Billington uses the skills he learned coordinating and controlling the mayor’s political chaos to become CitiScape’s integral link between clients and community and governmental organizations.
