| Joseph Schlessinger, Ph.D. is The William H. Prusoff Professor and Chair of Yale University’s Department of Pharmacology. Dr. Schlessinger oversees an important research group at Yale’s Department of Pharmacology, and he trains graduate students and postdoctoral fellows for future scientific endeavors. Dr. Joseph Schlessinger’s scientific research at Yale University involves study into the elucidation of mechanisms of Receptor Tyrosine Kinases (RTK) activation. Joseph Schlessinger earned his first degree, a B.Sc. in Chemistry and Physics, Magna Cum Laude, from The Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Later Mr. Schlessinger earned his M.Sc. in Chemistry, Magna Cum Laude, from the same institution. Dr. Joseph Schlessinger took his Doctorate from The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. Dr. Schlessinger’s Ph.D. Thesis at The Weizmann Institute of Science was a discussion of the "Study of Chemical and Biological Systems by Circular Polarization of Fluorescence." Upon receipt of his doctorate, Dr. Schlessinger began his career by working as a Postdoctoral Associate at the School of Applied and Engineering Physics and Department of Chemistry for Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Dr. Schlessinger would spend the next two decades working with various institutions such as the National Institutes of Health, The Weizmann Institute of Science, Rorer Biotech Inc., and, most recently, the Yale University School of Medicine. Professionally, Dr. Schlessinger has founded Kolltan, a pharmaceutical firm. Dr. Schlessinger is a board member and chairman of the scientific advisory board at Kolltan, with headquarters located in New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Schlessinger is responsible for supervising research and drug discovery at Kolltan, and he has raised almost USD $40 millions for the firm’s operations.
