Rey Junco is an Associate Professor and the Director of Disability Services in the Department of Academic Development and Counseling at Lock Haven University. Rey Junco is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Pennsylvania and he has taught first year seminars for over eight years. Rey also serves as an advisor for undeclared students at Lock Haven University and worked as an advisor for undeclared students in Penn State’s Division of Undergraduate Studies.
Rey Junco's research focuses on using emerging technologies to help engage and support college students. His books include Connecting to the Net.Generation: What higher education professionals need to know about today’s students and Using emerging technologies to help engage students. As part of the Net.Generation project, Dr. Junco conducted a large multi-institution survey of student technology use. Using emerging technologies explored, in much more detail, research-based topics such as using social networking sites to help engage students, technology to improve student retention, using blogs to improve student’s writing and marketing skills, and how technology can both help and hurt student mental health. Rey Junco has contributed to several other books. For instance, he developed and wrote the “Wired Windows” features in the Gardner, Jewler, and Barefoot first-year seminar textbook, Your college experience: Strategies for success and wrote the chapter “Technology and today’s first year students” in the Upcraft, Gardner, and Barefoot book Meeting challenges and building support: Creating a climate for first-year student success.
