Throughout his career in the steel and special metals industry, Hans Sack has achieved a balance among his professional, charitable, and recreational interests. A member of VDEh and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST), Hans Sack serves on the Board of Directors for both the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) and the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA). In addition, Hans Sack holds membership on the Board of Advisors for the Johnstown, Pennsylvania-based Gautier Steel Company. Hans Sack laid professional foundations while studying mechanical engineering at Rheinisch-Westfalische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) Aachen University in Germany. Following graduation, Hans Sack worked for Thyssen AG and Sack GmbH before entering the class of 1982 at Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts. Upon receipt of his M.B.A., Hans Sack embarked on a career path that would weave through such firms as the Pennsylvania Engineering Corporation, the Coolant Systems Division at Mannesmann-Demag-Sack GmbH, and The Timken Company. During his 19 years with The Timken Company and its former subsidiary, Latrobe Steel Company, Hans Sack held a complete range of roles, including Area Manager, General Manager, Vice President of Manufacturing, and President and Chief Executive Officer. Hans Sack instigated and inspired a degree track of operational excellence, which enjoys a high degree of success with students and recruiters, during his time as Trustee at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe and as Chairman of the Board of Advisors at the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics, and Government. Hans Sack regularly gives to Excela Health, Children’s Leukemia Society, the American Red Cross, the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, and Fort Ligonier Association. A native of Germany, Hans Sack also associates with the American Council on Germany, which fosters partnerships between government and business leaders in both countries. For pleasure, Hans Sack enjoys reading, skiing, golfing, and playing squash and tennis whenever possible.
