Throughout her career as a foreign language educator, Karen Grun has held a variety of teaching positions at both public and private schools. Karen Grun cultivated a passion for the study of foreign languages as a college undergraduate, during which time she pursued coursework in French and Spanish. An exemplary student, Karen Grun appeared on her school’s Dean’s List on multiple occasions and gained membership with the Phi Sigma Iota International Honor Society for her strong performance in foreign language. Karen Grun also traveled to Paris to study French at the Sorbonne, where she earned a Diplôme Semestriel in May 1978. Upon her return to the United States, Karen Grun graduated from college cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a State Teaching Certificate in Spanish and French. As a teacher of foreign languages, Karen Grun worked as a Spanish and French instructor at a private day school. In this capacity, Karen Grun developed and taught her own curriculum and used an age-appropriate, total-immersion pedagogical approach for her students. In addition, Karen Grun functioned as a Hebrew enrichment course teacher. Also serving as an administrator, Karen Grun held the dual role of foreign language instructor and interim assistant principal at a public high school. As the Foreign Language Department Liaison, Karen Grun managed the activities of six teachers in the department and ensured compliance with various issues regarding curriculum, safety, and discipline. At a public middle school, Karen Grun worked as an educator, served as Advisor of the Student Government Association, and organized a multi-school tutoring partnership. To this day, Karen Grun devotes her free time to various teaching activities, including a Spanish class for elderly community members.
